Adults can be defined as animals or human beings who have completed their developmental stage. The term adult is applied to humans to mean social and legal concepts. Contrary to the concept of a non-adult or "minor" legally adult is a person who has attained the age of majority and is therefore regarded as autonomous, self-sufficient and accountable. Also, they can be described as an "major". The age at which a child becomes an adult legally is 18 years old, however the definition of"legal maturity" can be different depending on the country or legal system as well as the psychological condition of the child.

Adulthood is the time that the person is at maturity in terms of both physical and mental growth. Typically, the age of adulthood is around the age of 21 or 20. The middle age begins at approximately 40 before being followed by an elderly age of 60. The adulthood process is split into three stages: early adulthood (18-mid-30s), mid-30s-mid-60s, and the final stage of adulthood, mid-60s to the time of death. In the early years of adulthood we have reached the fullest physical maturation. However, our size and weight may increase. In young adulthood, our physical abilities are at their highest which includes the strength of our muscles, our reaction speed, sensory abilities, and cardiac functioning.
